Welles Park Takes 1st in Region--on to City Championships!

On Saturday, the Welles Park team, made up of Hawthorne and Bell, competed in the Mayor's Tournament at the Broadway Armory. We were on fire!

The first game was against Sauganash Park, and Welles owned the floor, winning 26-6.

Next, Loyola Park looked strong and played tough, but Welles dominated. It was twenty-something to zero--Welles took first!

Welles is a member of the city's Elite Eight, and we will play our hardest on March 7 at the UIC Pavilion.

Go Welles!

Hawthorne Hurricanes Slaughter LaSalle 24-0

Everyone contributed to the 6th grade girls' sweet victory today over LaSalle Language Academy, and it was a great game to watch.

In the first half, Hawthorne kept their turnovers low, as the gals obviously learned from Coach B's passing and dribbling drills Tuesday morning. Maggie and Sophia led the team with 2 steals each, and the team led at halftime 6-0.

The Hurricanes came out blazing in the second half. Marayah was all over the court with 3 rebounds and 2 points. Sophia had 2 more steals for 6 points on break-aways for the game. Maggie won scoring honors, shooting 50% for 8 points in the 2nd half. Isabel commanded the boards for the game, pulling down 6 rebounds overall, as well as contributing 2 points. Lizzie pulled down 5 rebounds in the second half, scoring 2 points. Paulina mixed it up, with a season high 3 rebounds in one half. Grace continues to improve in passing and dribbling -- she's a great addition. Sabina not only sets great screens, but she contributes fashionable blue sweat pants, too!

We played a great game as a team, and we all had fun!

Sixth Grade Assembly

This Thursday, the sixth grade class is doing a play on fairy tales. Practices are going okay. The best parts will be the beginning and the end. There are also lots of funny dances, and other things that will make you laugh. Thanks Ms. Oquendo and Ms. Oliveri for helping us, even when we're not trying our hardest.
